From Nick

Thanks for some really interesting discussion today. Here is a recap for what to do for Thurday. In the future, we'll put these summaries in Issues on Github, but we still have two students to get into the system, so I'm just sending an email for today.

For Thursday

  1. Read through the six news articles in this folder to get some background on the Gulf of Maine:
    https://github.com/BigelowLab/ColbyForecasting/tree/main/reading/Woodard
  2. Read this paper, which attempted to make a comprehensive prediction of the Gulf of Maine for the year 2050:
    https://github.com/BigelowLab/ColbyForecasting/blob/main/reading/Pershing.elementa.2020.00076.pdf
  3. Explore the obis.org database for potential Gulf of Maine species to build a model/forecast around.
  4. Complete the superforecasting challenge, linked here:
    https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeuuLMzVbg8Hsdn9slGt5qFx1P78tCbKzsEuuHdnt3auQIC2Q/viewform

And here are the lecture slides from today:
https://github.com/BigelowLab/ColbyForecasting/blob/main/lectures/01-OceanForecastingIntrodution.pdf

See you all on Thursday.
