Unable to Detect Board Version

I don't remember what was needed to fix this, but if it won't work for now, we should mask this, or mention somehow that this is a future state thing. If 2.8 and Phoenix are short lived, masking it may be the best option for now. This generates questions from almost everyone I've had try the utility.

It would need the status command to report the board variant, as there is no other way of knowing.

I agree, it's something that is better hidden for now, and we can re-visit it in future.
