Configurable date format

The date format is hardcoded as dd-mm-yy. Can this be made configurable so I can display the date as mm-dd-yy instead?

Unlikely to be done any time soon at DLS as it appears in many files, in both PHP and JS, and provides no benefit for people this side of the Atlantic.
