Description
Current Behavior
When a game is approaching its release date, Steam typically displays messages like “2 weeks until this game unlocks” or “Releases in approximately 3 days.”
While this is helpful, it doesn’t tell users the exact unlock time.
Desired Behavior
Display the precise unlock time, automatically converted to the user’s local time zone, directly on the store page.
For example: “Unlocks on February 12, 2026 at 7:00 AM (UTC+13)”
Motivation / Use Case
Players often want to know:
- Exactly when they can start playing
- Whether a release is midnight, morning, or global launch
- How a global unlock time translates to their region
- Right now, users must:
- Search online for regional unlock times, or
- Wait until Steam gets closer to release and starts showing hour-based countdowns, then calculate it themselves.
Since the unlock time is already set somewhere in Steam’s backend, this feature would simply surface that existing data to the user in a clear, region-adjusted format.
