Kindle never reboots on install?

I've performed the installation process and received the page of text including a line that says something like 'now you should install the hotfix'. All the instructions are very explicit that the Kindle should automatically reboot at this point, but it does not.

I have given it a good 20 minutes (the instructions say 30 seconds) but still nothing. If I go back in to the store I can see some malformed text at the top (part of the output of the script) but otherwise the Kindle seems normally functional.

Eventually the Kindle put itself in to powersave/screensaver mode. I woke it back up but now what?

This is a 6th gen paperwhite on 5.12.2.2
