Describe the bug

suspend / resume is completely broken on the system. System soft hangs after shutdown (as a result system doesn't completely power off).

nvidia reports following errors on kernel log

Nov 25 11:28:20 kernel: NVRM: testIfDsmSubFunctionEnabled: GPS ACPI DSM called before _acpiDsmSupportedFuncCacheInit subfunction = 10.

To Reproduce

install following drivers

nvidia-dkms-580-open/noble,now 580.82.09-1pop1~1759962949~24.04~eb2851e amd64 [installed,automatic]
nvidia-driver-580-open/noble,now 580.82.09-1pop1~1759962949~24.04~eb2851e amd64 [installed]

1. Try to suspend and voila is system is unresumable
2. observe kernel log to find testIfDsmSubFunctionEnabled reporting errors.

Try setting NVreg_PreserveVideoMemoryAllocations=1 and/or exit 0 in /usr/bin/nvidia-sleep.sh. Nothing helps. Repros on 6.17.* and earlier kernels (6.16.*: tested)

The suspend/resume on my system was working fine on my system for years. Why did you break a working feature?

it may be not Nvidia issue but "your nvidia driver package does not include everything Nvidia need to proper hybernate"

manually check/create missing configs

for me - drivers 580.105.08 same gpu as yours - not laptop - but hybernate works with no bugs - browser and everything else works.

I never configured (extra space to store the VRAM) my system for hibernate. All I do is suspend / resume which have been broken in recent nvidia drivers. It worked for long time until it had been broken recently.

it should - try
