Improved workflow for renewal of expiring terms #619

OSU Degree Field terms expire after 5 years. This is by design; but it does result in user confusion and staff frustration. The current situation is that the terms expire and no longer appear in the metadata form drop down list for user deposits. Then the user doesn't see their Degree Field, has to select Other and write it in. Repository staff get a notification, manually update the term in ONS, and also manually update the SA@OSU record for the work. There is no easy way to tell which terms have expired in the ONS vocabulary.

I'm suggesting an improved workflow for renewing terms, with the key pieces of the solution being (1) that we can preemptively extend the expiration so it's seamless for users, and (2) that it's done as a batch process to reduce the time and effort. For instance, at the end of the academic year, generating a report of all Degree Field terms that will expire in the next year, sending it to repository staff to verify whether they are current, and then running a batch renew operation.
