Format of time variable

One more design question I was wondering about:

What format for the time variable to use?

• plain unixtimestamp
• np. datetime64[s] or np.datetime64[ns]

I somehow lean to the second one, but do not have a strong opinion on that.
Background is a bit, that I considered using xarray for reading the meteo data.
With respect to interpolation, xarray seems more reasonable that plan netcdf4.

Within the preprocessing I used plain unixtime. But of course this can be converted to datetime if it is more practical.
