Blank white screen

Hello

I followed instructions here https://github.com/Rakha112/react-native-animation/tree/main/season2/app/3dModel
but got a blank white screen only.

Any insights or idea how to fix it will be appreciated, I am interested in loading GBL model and view it.

Hey @hopewise, did you run the app on ios simulator?

If you’re using the iOS simulator, it’s because the iOS simulator cannot render OpenGL. You should use a physical iOS device or an Android emulator instead.

iOS simulator is known not to render under the OpenGL backend. Frames will only sometimes flush, so you'll need to test on a real device for animation. I'll be continuing this in #2992 so we can consolidate efforts. They have the same underlying issue, APK aside.

I just cloned the repo and tried a fresh start, I did not use my model, please let me know if I can provide any details.

Try a physical device. OpenGL is not supported anywhere, especially on Apple platforms. They have deprecated that since 2014, and only Metal is supported. This is why browsers don't actually use OpenGL for WebGL implementations but implement over DirectX/Vulkan/Metal via https://github.com/google/angle. For them, it's preferable to emulate OpenGL than actually use it, as OpenGL is riddled with driver and OS bugs. Unfortunately, expo-gl uses OpenGL directly, so we are plagued by these same bugs. Ideally, a react-native port of ANGLE would become available and align with browser behavior, which is much better supported, but that is notoriously the most complex project and successful collaboration of companies in the history of software, and not even a large company can do that on their own. For now, I merely suggest expo-gl and react-native by extension for enthusiast use and would prefer a web view for performance and stability reasons.
