Feature Request: Publish Redot on Steam #98

Description

Describe the project you are working on

I am developing games using Redot, including platformers and visual novels. I use the engine for all aspects of development: animation, gameplay, and UI.

Describe the problem or limitation you are having in your project

Redot is not currently available on Steam. This makes distribution, automatic updates, and tracking time spent in the engine more difficult. It also limits Redot’s visibility to new developers and potential users.

Describe the feature / enhancement and how it helps to overcome the problem or limitation

I propose adding support for publishing Redot on Steam as a standalone product. This would allow:

Automatic updates via Steam.

Tracking hours spent in the engine.

Attracting new users and expanding the community.

Simplifying distribution for indie developers.

Describe how your proposal will work, with code, pseudo-code, mock-ups, and/or diagrams

Once added to Steam, the engine would function like any regular client:

Users install Redot via Steam.

Automatic updates are delivered through Steam.

Time spent in Redot is tracked and visible on user profiles.

A Steam page provides easy access for new users.

(Optional: you can attach mockups, screenshots, or an icon for the Steam page.)

If this enhancement will not be used often, can it be worked around with a few lines of script?

No, this is not a script feature. It is an infrastructure improvement: without Steam support, automatic updates and public profile tracking are not possible.

Is there a reason why this should be core and not an add-on in the asset library?

Yes, this is not a separate library but a distribution method. Steam release affects installation, updates, and visibility, so it should be part of the core, not just an add-on.
