Mode button not responding

I purchased the nixie clock for rpi a little over a year and a half ago, and am only now getting around to try and use it.

The user manual says to hold down the mode button to step through the modes and make changes.  However, no matter how long I hold it down, nothing ever happens.  Is there maybe a hard reset I could do to see if the behavior changes?
