The App Crashes When ctrl + clicking To A Single File/Folder To Restore

Every time I ctrl + click on a single file or folder to restore it, it just crashes abruptly. It doesn't crash when I ctrl + drag click to select multiple files/folders. It's literally just when I do a single item
I'm on Garuda Linux, installed it from the Chaotic AUR via pacman, built buy "Garuda Builder team@garudalinux.org"
I'm running backintime 1.5.6-2., I have "click opens file and folders" thing enabled which honestly might be related to the cause of the crashes

I am not able to reproduce the issue nor have enough details for reproduction.

More details please. Why Ctrl? Left/Right click? Where you click exactly? Ctrl+ClickL/R is not for restoring. How does restoring fit into this picture?

Yeah I should have clarified more. So I tried to clarify as much as I can please check this out.

• "Why Ctrl?"
  Because I use ctrl + left click to select multiple files and/or folders that are located in different areas of the file browser. This is a standard feature on many file browser like Dolphin, File Explorer, Thunar etc. You can also just use it to select a single item
• "Left/Right click?"
  I was left clicking. That's the default main click.
• "Where you click exactly?"
  The third column of the main Back In Time window, which acts as a file browser for your backups. This column doesn't have a title unlike the other 2 columns, for some reason. See image 0
• "Ctrl+ClickL/R is not for restoring"
  I was attempting to select my different files and/or folders (ctrl + left click multiple items) to then right click for the context menu which allows me restore those selected files and/or folders. See image 1
• "How does restoring fit into this picture?"
  I select files with ctrl + left click in the column, the third column. which allows me to select the files and/or folders I want to restore before I right ctrl + right click for a context menu to choose how I can restore those files and/or folders. The place to restore is in that same. See image 2 again

Also, this is important. This bug only occurs for when the "Clicking files or folders opens them" is toggled on. Isn't that a qt thing?. See video 1, where I held down ctrl + left click on items on the third column with that setting toggle off and on

What desktop is this? KDE maybe?

I think your are correct, that the "Clicking files or folders opens them" setting is involved. I am not aware of such a setting in my environment (XFCE).

I am assuming this cause to be different signal send. Can you please start BIT in a terminal (via backintime-qt, reproduce the problem and copy and paste the terminal output here. I am assuming there will be an Exception error message that helps me to identify the signal.

Yep, this is a KDE plasma. It's the default behaviour on KDE plasma.

It's one of the options in the "Quick Settings" page, the first page on the KDE Plasma's System Settings app. The same setting is also found in Workspace → General Behaviour → Clicking in System Settings.

This is the default behaviour on KDE Plasma. Many people don't prefer it, which is why it's on the "Quick Settings" page of KDE Plasma's System Settings

Congratulations, you found two rare bugs. 🎆 🥳 Thank you very much.

One introduced by me while migrating BIT from Qt5 to Qt6 in version 1.5.0 round about 2 years ago.
The other introduced by an unknown "user" with version 0.9.24 round about 17 years ago.
Additionally this also affects the "Snapshots dialog" (today named just "Backups") where you can compare backups.

I'll work on a fix.

I saw it in your screencast. But I wonder how you can Ctrl+LeftMouse that without fireing the "activate item signal"? See in my screenshot that it does with "Clicking files or folders opens them" enabled. Ctrl+Left triggers the error.

btw: Without "Clicking files or folders opens them" being enabled this bug can be triggered when having multiple items selected and than double click (open) on one of them.
