Unexpected behavior when disk space is insufficient for output files

A colleague encountered this issue while trying to process a large number of very high-resolution (1016dpi) core images with Geotek Converter.  At some point, the disk ran out of space.  Rather than reporting an error and halting processing, the converter continued on its merry way, outputting almost-empty (1KB) files.
