Performance and refactoring

1. The code grew up pretty quickly lately, giving away here and there for blings vs. performance. Examples to follow.
2. There are external js files attached in clear, they can be minified. Are all the external files needed?
3. Currently if a web browser is kept open, the messages get stored in the browser forever. How much forever is allowed? Should we care? Can we store locally? Is it worth doing it?
4. This is an app that is supposed to run continously. As such we need to track and identify eventual memory leaks. How do we do that?
