Description
Hello @sleevi ,
I recently implemented registrable domain highlighting in Firefox for Android (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1812898), extending a feature that has existed in Firefox desktop for 14 years (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=451833).
Given your post about avoiding the PSL for new use cases, I'd appreciate your perspective on this specific application. The core challenge I'm addressing is helping users identify deceptive URLs, which requires teaching them to read domains from right to left - an unnatural reading pattern for most users.
Let's consider the following examples:
https://account.booking.comんdetailんrestric-access.www-account-booking.com/en/
https://allegrolokalnie.pl-oferta5815015105198474.cfd/oferta/laptop-gamingowy-lenovo-ryzen-5/qRnGOMfpKOeBBs7bre
In Firefox, the registrable domain is highlighted, making the scam obvious:
In Chrome, it's much harder to spot:
If the PSL isn't appropriate for this use case, what alternative approach would you recommend for helping browsers effectively communicate domain boundaries to users?
