Wakeup button - what it really does?

I am not able to discover, what exactly Wakeup button is doing.
Please would you describe details?

This is force waking the onboard connectivity unit (OCU) and should trigger the car to update its values even though it is not driving.

Thank you. I am not sure if I can see any benefit in connection with Home Assistant. As far as I know, HA VW integration polls data from API, not from the car. Please, would you give me example, what is a benefit of using Wakeup? Maybe it can be used in some automation, but I do not know proper scenario ...

OK - I can imagine this scenario: Charging is in progress, but car does not updates its SoC to VW, so API and HA has also old data. After Wakeup - car should send actual SoC, so HA also will poll new value. I realized, that SoC in HA during charging is often "stucked". Maybe it would be useful to automatically send wakeups during charging?

For example when you don’t use your car for a long time it still drains your battery. So when the SoC is very old you can wake it up and get a more up to date value.
Another example, some cars provide the outside temperature, but the value is not updated often. Sometimes the last update was when the car was parked. A wake-up can trigger an update.

Yes, that is also an example, but automatic wakeups are a bit dangerous because waking up too often can drain the 12V battery. Thus VW prevents too frequent wakeups.
