Only low-res YouTube thumbnails returned – possible to access HD thumbnail?

Question

When embedding a YouTube video using the Embed type, the returned thumbnail (data[0]) is always hqdefault.jpg, which is low resolution (480×360). However, for many videos, YouTube provides a high-res version (maxresdefault.jpg), which looks significantly better.

Is there a way for Hyper to expose the HD version (maxresdefault.jpg) when available? Or would this be something that could be considered as an enhancement?

Right now we have to manually extract the video ID and build the thumbnail URLs ourselves in JavaScript to get better image quality.

So firstly, I'll need to know what embed/embed package you're on. Can you search for embed/embed in your composer.lock file, and let me know which version your project uses (either 3.x or 4.x). We support both, but their handling is quite different.

If you're on 4.x, we have a helper that handles images. There's a resolveHiResEmbedImage plugin setting that you might consider enabling. It's off by default to ensure that we don't have performance issues because it required additional calls to fetch this info.
