AY-7897_Define a template 'manifest.usd' for shots #88

@ynbot

Description

@ynbot

Please describe the feature you have in mind and explain what the current shortcomings are?

Working on bigger scenes made me realize things should have a predefined location for consistency across the show / sequence. Like a template. Workfile templates only get you 'some way' but nothing in the USD structure itself defines a ready-to-go template hierarchy.

In comes "manifest.usd" files. So that when you start working on a shot it comes with this predefined "manifest.usd" that defines the project's preferred hierarchy layout.

Like:

shot.usd

  • manifest.usd

-> A default 'manifest' USD file getting generated.

When is a good time to autogenerate it?
Potentially, click on the SHOT in frontend to trigger the action: -> set up manifest action. (and potentially edit it after?)

Manifest USD files is something that also came up in Project Greylight:
-> https://www.sidefx.com/greylight/ project greylight (Andreas Weidman) also used something like that.
--> there is a video where he addressed the manifest

How would you imagine the implementation of the feature?
