Quran Database Documentation

This database contains the complete Quranic text along with associated tafsir, translation, and metadata for each ayah. Each record corresponds to a single ayah and includes detailed information for text alignment, commentary, translation, and indexing.

The tafsir provided is Ibn Kathir, and the English translation is by Dr. T.B. Irving (dr_t_b_irving_simple). The initial sources of the Quranic script and metadata are from Qul Tarteel.

Fields

Field Name	Description
id	Unique identifier for each record in the database.
verse_key	Combination of surah and ayah in the format surah:ayah (e.g., 2:255).
surah	Chapter number of the Quran (1-114).
ayah	Verse number within the surah.
quran_text	Original Arabic text of the ayah.
ayah_key	Key used for tafsir alignment. Usually identical to verse_key.
group_ayah_key	Identifier for grouped ayahs in a tafsir range.
from_ayah	Starting ayah number of the tafsir group.
to_ayah	Ending ayah number of the tafsir group.
ayah_keys	All ayah keys included in the tafsir group. Useful for multi-verse tafsir entries.
tafsir_text	Commentary text from Ibn Kathir. May span multiple ayahs.
tafsir_type	Type of tafsir. Currently "Ibn Kathir".
translation_text	English translation of the ayah by Dr. T.B. Irving.
juz_number	Juz (part) number in which the ayah appears (1-30).
transliteration	Phonetic transliteration of the Arabic text for pronunciation guidance.

Notes

• Tafsir entries may cover multiple ayahs; from_ayah and to_ayah define the range. For single-ayah tafsir, from_ayah and to_ayah are equal.
• Translation and tafsir are aligned using ayah_key to ensure precise mapping.
• The database supports integration for search, educational applications, or analytical projects, with structured access to both Arabic text, tafsir, translation, and indexing by surah, ayah, and Juz.
• Initial resources and text obtained from Qul Tarteel.
• This database is free to use for personal, educational, or research purposes. May Allah reward us for sharing beneficial knowledge.
